Why Exercise Makes You Happy

Why Exercise Makes You Happy

Sure, you know exercise is good for you. It keeps your weight in check, makes you stronger and fitter.

But did you know that exercise can also make you a happier person? It's true.

When you work out and stay active on a regular basis, it's not just a coincidence that you feel less stressed out, less anxious, and generally happier.

It releases happy chemicals into your brain.

Dopamine, a chemical that plays a role in happiness, is a neurotransmitter in the brain that's necessary for feelings of pleasure and happiness.

The best way to increase your brain's dopamine production? Exercise. So lift weights, run, be active and get happy.

There has been much research on the link between exercise and mental health. Those that exercised regularly showed striking improvements. Research suggests doing some form of activity for 60 minutes every 2-3 days shows the biggest impact. Combine this with healthy eating, and you're onto a winner.

Exercise and be happy.

The next time you're feeling down, stressed or anxious, get off the couch and get some exercise instead.

Make it a priority each week and plan for your exercise, because you'll not only feel more confident, energized, and calm — you'll be a healthier and happier person for life.
